Fall Book Sale This Week

(September 29, 2015)  The days are getting shorter and it’s time to plan your winter reading.   The Minerva Public Library fall book sale is ready to help.   The fall book sale continues through this Saturday, October 3.  This year’s book sale features, as always, a wide variety of books for all ages and interest and priced to sell at just 25 cents each.  Special interest books are sold at special prices, but there are many bargains to be found.  This fall the sale also includes many large print books, many books for children and teens, and a great selection of audiobooks on

Taste of Fall--Monday, 7:00 pm

(September 23, 2015)  Ohio apples are in the stores and the pumpkins are in the patch.  It’s time to try out fall recipes at the Minerva Public Library.  Stop by the library’s Community Meeting Room at 7:00 pm on Monday, September 28 as Chris Kendle shares recipes and tasting samples featuring the bounty of fall.  This program is free and no registration is required.

 

Seven Wonders of the World--Monday, 7:00 pm

Pyramids, hanging gardens, a lighthouse, a giant statue.  What do they all have in common?  They are some of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, and most of them are lost in the sands of time.   Learn more about these mysterious places when Lynette Reiner from the McKinley Museum visits the library on Monday, September 21, at 8:00 pm.   This program will fascinate and astound all ages: it meets in the library's Community Meeting Room, it's free, and no registration is required.

 

Bats!--Monday, September 14, 7:00 pm

(September 8,2015)  Join us this Monday evening at 7:00 as Jamey Emmert from Ohio Division of Wildlife tells us all about our nocturnal neighbors.   Ohio is home to 11 species of bats, such as the Big Brown Bat below, which are important to our local ecosystem, and interesting creatures besides.  Learn about the only mammal that flies in this program for all ages.   We'll gather in the library's Community Meeting Room; no registration is required and there is no charge for this program.  

Food and Nutrition Program Begins Tuesday, September 8

The library is pleased to partner with the Stark County Office of the OSU Agricultural Extension Service to host its Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program.   Beginning on Tuesday, September 8, at 7:00 pm, Danielle Massey will teach an eight-week workshop focusing on nutrition, physical activity, and parenting practices to help families succeed in making healthy changes.   Each week includes useful tips on shopping and meal planning, help with picky eaters, information on new foods, recipes with samples, exercise and health information, and much more.   A snack is included during each workshop along with fun giveaways to help create a healthy lifestyle.    This free program focuses on parents with children, but all are welcome.  The sessions meet in the library’s Community Meeting Room and no registration is required.

(August 20, 2015) Another school year begins and we are happy to welcome students back to the library.  Remember that your library card is the key that unlocks a vast store of entertainment and information--books, movies, CDs, audiobooks, and more from this library and 91 other public libraries across Ohio; downloadable ebooks and audiobooks from the Ohio Digital Library; downloadable music, movies, and audiobooks from Hoopladigital; in-depth online instruction in over 60 languages from Mangolanguages; and access to full-text magazine articles, encyclopedias, and reference books from the Ohio Web Library.  All for no charge with your Minerva Public Library card.

Our Friday, July 10 BOOK BLAST features Jim Kleefeld’s HERO MAGIC Show.  Heroes All Around Us! Heroes in Books! Heroes in Comics! Heroes in the Movies! Jim's new show Hero Magic is all about real and fictional Heroes and Superheroes from fact, fiction and all walks of life. Fun for children and parents alike, this exciting show features stories and tales mixed with magic, all about heroes like Thomas Edison, Superman and Batman, Doctors, Teachers and Librarians - and even Mom and Dad! As always, Jim's shows are interactive, so children get to help create the magic all along the way!  BOOK BLAST is a family program for all ages.  Children ages 18 and under receive a FREE meal, so bring a towel or small blanket to use while you sit on the floor and eat and enjoy the show.
