(June 12,2014) John C. Haines, from Stark County, served in two regimental bands during the Civil War: the 19th and the 104th Ohio Volunteer Infantry; both regiments were organized in Stark County. Music was an important part of military life and the story of regimental bands is not well known. Join us Monday, Jun 16, at 7;00 pm, when local author Paul Hobe will regale listeners with tuneful tales of Haines and the regimental bands. Hobe also will present interesting stories of the 19th OVI, which formed in the Alliance area and served throughout the Civil War. This well-illustrated presentation includes recordings of period band music.
