Make & Take a Toad House

(April 25, 2014)  Don't miss this entertaining family activity for kids 6 and up on Saturday, May 3 from 2:00 to 3:30 pm.!  Each child will create a toad house from a clay flower pot, decorating it with small pebbles and shells. A parent will be needed to assist children under 12.  The library will provide all materials but you may bring along your own favorite small stones or shells to personalize your toad house.  Space is limited so sign up soon by visiting the Youth Desk or call 330-868-4101.

Resume Workshop--Monday, 7:00 pm

(May 13, 2014) Do you need a resume?  Not sure where to start?  Come to the library Monday, May 19, at 7:00 pm and learn how to mix up a winning resume at the Resume Ingredients Workshop.   Amy Miller, a Resource Center Manager with OhioMeansJobs Stark and Tuscarawas Counties, will show you how to get started.   Find out how to create a resume that employers will read.  Learn what information goes into a good a resume, and what information stays out.  Discover different kinds of resumes and which type is best for you. The workshop wil be held in the Community Meeting Room and is free.

Edible Science Program

(May 21, 2014) Edibles can be incredible!  We will use various foods to make or break your knowledge of scientific theories.  Can you sink a marshmallow?  Will liquids become edible solids?  Join our science librarian, Kilowatt Kathy, to find the answers to these and many more crazy questions on Wednesday afternoon, June 11 from 2:00 to 3:30.  Kids who have completed Kindergarten through high school  may sign up for this Family Fun Special at the youth desk or call 330-868-4101.  Parents are encouraged to join us, but no preschoolers, please.

Morgan's Raid--The Civil War Comes to Ohio!

(June 3, 2014)  Join us Monday, June 9, at 7:00 pm as local historian John H. Barnett presents the exciting story of the Confederate cavalry raid through Indiana and Ohio in July, 1863. Union troops under Major General Ambrose Burnside gave chase through 19 Ohio counties, fighting the only Civil War battle in Ohio, at Buffington Island, which saw the death of Carroll County’s Major John McCook.  Finally, after a pursuit of over 500 miles, Union cavalry ran the remaining Confederates to ground near  Salineville.  This program is suitable for the whole family and will be held in the library's Community Meeting Room. 

BOOK BLAST TODAY!

(June 6, 2014) Celebrate the start of your child's vacation from school by coming to the first of eight BOOK BLAST programs of the summer today, June 6 from 12 noon to 1:00 pm.  Our summer reading theme for 2014 is FIZZ BOOM READ so we will start off with a bang or two or three!  Our guest presenter, Steve Walters, Minerva High School's dynamic chemistry teacher, has promised to thrill everyone with a few explosions and other fascinating chemical reactions!  Each child 18 and under will receive a free lunch which will be served beginning at 11:45.  Bring along a picnic blanket for your family to sit on while they eat and are entertained by stories and our special guest.  No prior registration is required!

Civil War Regimental Bands--This Monday, 7:00 pm

(June 12,2014)   John C. Haines, from Stark County, served in two regimental bands during the Civil War: the 19th and the 104th Ohio Volunteer Infantry; both regiments were organized in Stark County.     Music was an important part of military life and the story of regimental bands is not well known.   Join us Monday, Jun 16, at 7;00 pm, when local author Paul Hobe will regale listeners with tuneful tales of Haines and the regimental bands.  Hobe also will present interesting stories of the 19th OVI, which formed in the Alliance area and served throughout the Civil War.  This well-illustrated presentation includes recordings of period band music.

Homecoming Book Sale

(June 12, 2014)  The library will hold its summer book sale for four days only during the Minerva Homecoming, June 18-21.  Books for all ages and interests will be sold for 25 cents each.  Proceeds support programing and guest speakers at the library this year. 

Canning Jams and Jellies, Monday, 7:00 pm

(June 18, 2014)  Jams and jellies are a delicious anytime treat, but they can also be a challenge to make! Join Chris Kendle from the Extension Officer this Monday, June 23 at 7:00 pm  to learn  the science behind jelled products while seeing a live demonstration. Whether you are interested in making jams and jellies to eat right away or store for later, this class will have the information you need. Enjoy yummy samples and even take some home with you! Bring your canner along and Chris will pressure test it for free. 

Book Blast Program Features Salvino Family Magicians

(July 9, 2014) Join us for our BOOK BLAST family program this Friday,July 11 at noon to be dazzled by Magician Mike Salvino and his assistant Bridgett the Bewildering Bunny. Every child in attendance 18 and under will receive a free lunch which will be served from 11:45-12:00. Bring along a blanket for your family to sit on as you eat lunch and are entertained by fun stories and our special guest.
